The stone
A borate mineral with spiderweb veins.
Howlite is a borate mineral found in sedimentary rock, first identified by Henry How in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is typically white or gray with distinctive spiderweb-like patterns in black, gray or deep brown, and in its natural state it can resemble cauliflower heads. It goes by several names, including Kaolinite, Silico Boro Calcite, White Turquoise, Lapis Howlite, Sacred Buffalo and White Buffalo.
Its porous nature takes dye easily, so howlite is often dyed to imitate turquoise or coral. As a stand-in for red coral it has helped reduce the demand for harvesting coral reefs, while white howlite shines in its own right.
Howlite is found mainly in Canada, especially Nova Scotia, as well as parts of the United States, Mexico and other regions rich in borate mineral deposits.
A stone of calming, awareness and patience.
In crystal tradition, howlite is believed to promote calm, tranquility and emotional healing, and is said to enhance patience, self-awareness and inner peace, supporting meditation and a deeper connection to spiritual realms.
It is associated with positive communication, self-expression and understanding, and with the Crown chakra, linked to spiritual awareness, higher consciousness and connection to divine wisdom. Many also believe it absorbs negative energy.
Crystals have been prized for centuries for their beauty and believed metaphysical properties; Spirit Magicka makes no guarantee of any mystical or healing effect.
