Prophecy Stones are found in the White Desert near Farafra, in Egypt's Western Desert. Each one began as marcasite or pyrite. Over geologic time it turned to iron oxides, mainly goethite with some hematite, while keeping its original knobby, starburst or wand-like form.
Geologists call this a pseudomorph: the same outer shape with a new mineral inside. Early collectors sometimes took these stones for meteorites, but they are treasures of the Egyptian desert itself.

Named for a vision.
"Prophecy Stone" is a modern trade name for this Egyptian material. In crystal lore, the name comes from a finder who is said to have had a prophetic vision while meditating with one.
In crystal tradition, it is a stone of prophecy, spirit and cleansing, believed to enhance intuition and spiritual insight, which makes it a favorite for meditation and deeper spiritual awareness.
