The stone

Selenite takes its name from the Greek word for moon. It is a variety of gypsum that forms when seawater evaporates and leaves mineral deposits behind, which slowly transform into translucent crystals that look like frozen moonlight.
It is found in Germany, Morocco, Australia, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East, Canada and the USA.
