Four photos: a child taps the geode in its velvet bag with a hammer, a girl in safety glasses watches, a hand holds the opened geode, and the white quartz pieces lie on the bag

Opening day

One strike, and the treasure is out.

Slip the geode into the velvet bag, put on safety glasses and give it a firm tap with a hammer from your toolbox. Tip out the pieces and the white quartz inside catches the light.

Kids love this crystal treasure more than just about any toy.

Inside every geode

Plain on the outside, sparkling within.

Over countless years, mineral-rich fluids seep into a hollow in the rock. As they slowly evaporate they leave behind fine particles of silica, which crystallize into the quartz you find when you break it open.

Geodes are found around the world, including Brazil, Morocco, Mexico and the United States. No two hold the same crystals.

A crystal of amplification, cleansing and harmony.

In crystal tradition, quartz is the crystal of amplification, cleansing and harmonizing. A quartz geode is said to offer grounding energy that brings stability, harmony, emotional balance and inner strength.

It is also kept as a protective talisman, believed to shield against negative energies and bring a sense of security and tranquility. In crystal energy work it is associated with the root chakra: a strong foundation, grounding and vitality.

Crystals have been prized for centuries for their beauty and believed metaphysical properties; Spirit Magicka makes no guarantee of any mystical or healing effect.

Your geodes

A surprise for every pair of hands.

Pick one to open yourself, or choose 2, 4 or 8 so everyone at the table gets their own.
