Cleanse it
Hold it under cold running water for about thirty seconds, rest it in sunlight or moonlight, or pass it through sage or palo santo smoke. Repeat now and then to keep it clear.
Choose a hand
Your dominant hand gives more control; your other hand may feel more open and receptive. Try both and keep what feels natural.
Calibrate
Sit quietly, let it hang freely, and ask a question you know is yes, such as your own name. Watch its motion, then do the same for no.
Test the match
Ask "Show me yes" and "Show me no." A smooth, steady swing is a good sign you and your pendulum are in tune.
A pendulum may circle, swing back and forth or move on a diagonal; each one finds its own language.
