Aventurine

Deep green, with a quiet sparkle.

Aventurine is a variety of quartz flecked with tiny specks of mica that catch the light as the sphere turns. It is usually green, and also occurs in blue, yellow, brown, white, gray, orange and red.

Every sphere carries its own veins and shades. Three are shown here side by side; you receive one, with a pattern all its own.

In crystal tradition, aventurine is a gentle stone said to bring good luck. Tibetans worked with it believing it would lift their confidence, creativity and passion. It is aligned with the heart chakra, for love and compassion, and with the throat chakra, for inspiration.

Spheres are said to send energy out equally in every direction, and their symmetrical shape is thought to give off a high frequency of positive energy.

Until the 1800s aventurine was known as the stone of the Amazons, the fierce warrior women of Greek myth, who were said to set it into their breastplates as adornment and talisman. Its name comes from the Italian ventura, meaning by chance: the story goes that in the 18th century metal filings fell into a vat of molten glass by accident, making a glittering glass for jewelry, and the stone was later named for its likeness.
